Julian Field

2005

Julian Field

Julian Field was a civic leader of Fort Worth and the founder of the town of Mansfield. Field moved west to Fort Worth in 1854 just after the fort closed. Mr. Field was elected the first Worshipful Master of the first chartered Masonic Lodge in Fort Worth in 1855, and was commissioned as the first postmaster of Fort Worth in 1856. With two partners he built the first gristmill in town at the confluence of the Clear Fork and West Fort of the Trinity River. He was one of thirty-eight men who signed a bond guarantee for the construction of the first courthouse in Fort Worth…part of an effort to bring the county seat to Fort Worth from Birdville.
