Amon G. Carter, Sr.

As founder and publisher of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Amon G. Carter, Sr. was one of the most famous Texans of his era. His credits include establishing the Big Bend National Park and Texas Tech University. His efforts include having General Motors, Convair and American Airlines locate in the North Texas area. Known for his cowboy attire of a big hat and boots, he was named the state’s official goodwill ambassador. An ardent promoter of Fort Worth, his influence can be seen across the city as his name adorns schools and other public developments.
