Early pioneers relied on the abundance of native plants and flowers for shelter, food, and medicine. Widow of president Lyndon Johnson, Lady Bird recognized the importance of our nature flora in our western history and the threat of extinction for many. In 1982 she co-founded The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center headquartered in Austin, Texas
