Dale Robertson

Dayle Lymoine Robertson was born July 14,1923, in Harrah Oklahoma. Dale was a proficient rider by the age of 10 and trained polo ponies into his teens. He attended the Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore where he was nominated "all-around athlete." He also did some professional boxing.
Dale served in United States Army during WWII as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was wounded twice and was awarded the Bronze and Silver Medals. Because of the wounds, he was not able to resume his boxing career.
Dale's acting career began by chance when a portrait he had taken for his mother was displayed in studio window. He made his film debut in a few uncredited roles until It led to two featured roles in Randolph Scott western's. This led to a contract with 20th Century Fox.
Early in his acting career, Will Rogers Jr. told him, “Don't ever take a dramatic lesson. They will try to put your voice in a dinner jacket, and people like their hominy and grits in everyday clothes." He followed that advice.
Dale's film career spanned from 1948 to 1957 then he went into television to play his most memorable role as Jim Hardie on Tales of Wells Fargo in 1957 till 1962. He was unique among his television contemporaries because he WAS the character he portrayed.
Dale received many awards, including the Golden Boot award, and has a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Dale received the press’ Sour Apple Award three years running because he was uncooperative with them. But then he commented, "that dang Sinatra had to hit some photographer in the nose and stop me from getting my fourth."
